I want to submit creative writing

Please read through the guidelines below carefully.

SPACE is especially interested in writing that relates in some way to the sciences, technology and society. The sciences could include the social sciences–– economics, political science, psychology, sociology, anthropology, etc.

If you have written a creative piece that fits that description, SPACE invites you to submit it for publication on the website.

Editing and preparing your creative writing for submission

“Writing is re-writing.” This famous expression applies to all forms writing, but none more so than creative writing. A story or poem often discovers its images, form and theme through multiple revisions. It can also usually benefit from discussion with trusted readers, such as in a writing workshop.

Before submitting your story, we encourage you to write and re-write your story or poem to the best of your ability and perhaps to get feedback on it from your peers and teacher.

Please review and/or get help from someone else to review your writing carefully for grammar and spelling as well.

Your submissions should also include a few other elements that are needed for publication––specifically, a title, a byline, a copyright free image and a short bio.

Finally, we ask that students include the name of a teacher who has agreed to endorse their submission.

Please review the following checklist to help ensure that your creative writing is as accessible, engaging and well-written as you can make it and that it includes all the elements necessary for publication.

Then, when you are ready, you can submit your article or essay through the Submissions Portal.

Here are a few examples of previously published creative writing pieces with a sciences, technology and society angle:

Short story about a future where humans are living in underwater cities: The Order of Infinity
Short story about the intersection of war and individual lives: The Land of Jasmines
Poem speculating about possible future role of technology in grief: Plastic love
Poem about covid-19 (includes visual art by poet): Viral Verdansk
Poem about reclaiming one’s body from negative social messages: Homage to my Stretch Marks
