Interview Toolkit for Students Across the Disciplines

Return to description

Pre-interview

Before you even begin preparing for an interview, you need to brainstorm:

  • the purpose of your interview
  • the outcome you hope to achieve
  • the form it may take

This worksheet will guide you through this brainstorming process.

After you’ve completed the worksheet, discuss your ideas with your peers (e.g. classmates) and mentors (e.g. a teacher), to make sure you are aware of other potential possibilities and to check that your ideas align with your intentions.

Now that you have brainstormed and discussed the purpose, desired outcome and possible form(s) of your interview, you are ready to begin preparing for your interview.

The more you prepare for your interview, the better it is likely to go. Your preparation should consist of three steps:

Step 1- Determine your angle
Step 2 - Research

Step 3 - Preparing your questions

Watch the video on these pre-interview steps. You can use this worksheet to help you complete each of these steps.
