This 2024/2025 academic year, SPACE is excited to be hosting its seventh annual writing competition. Students from every discipline across Dawson College are invited to submit writing that encourages reflection on this year’s SPACE theme, INTELLIGENCE.
Students can submit in one or more of three categories: prose (fiction or creative non-fiction), poetry, and essay. Submissions may emerge from classroom work as well as independent initiatives and may be individual or collaborative.
Contest winners and honorable mentions will be selected by an interdisciplinary jury of faculty. In addition to prizes awarded in each category, there will also be an opportunity for publication on the SPACE website.
To better understand some of the various dimensions of the theme INTELLIGENCE we highly encourage participants to read and consider the description of this year’s theme.
You can read the pieces from the winners and honourable mentions of last year's writing contest here.

March 23, 2026Dawson College’s writing contest showcased incredible student talent! Winners explored intelligence through prose and poetry, demonstrating originality and depth. “Red” highlighted thoughtless comments, while “I Painted My Dreams” used vibrant imagery. Even honorable mentions like “Dear Clive” cleverly addressed human existence. It reminds me of the strategic thinking needed to master Ragdoll Archers, aiming for precision and impact! Check out the winning pieces for inspiration. https://ragdollarchersonline.io

April 14, 2026Dawson College’s theme of Intelligence inspired insightful writing. “Red” explores the destructive power of thoughtlessness, showing how experience fosters learning. Just like solving Pips, it requires strategic thinking and deep engagement. The writing is moving and raw, demonstrating emotional intelligence and the complex connection between beauty and pain. Discovering true friendship helps transmute visibility into something profound.
