Co-curricular Activities: Fall 2024 Overview

To fulfill the co-curricular requirement of the SPACE: Arts and Sciences Certificate, students must complete one of the following course / additional activity credit combinations.

* Foundational knowledge and 15 credits of additional activities
                                           or
* Foundational knowledge, plus One cross listed course, and 12 credits of additional activities
                                           or
* Foundational knowledge, plus Two cross listed courses, and 9 credits of additional activities

Additional acitivity credits are accumulated through involvement in activities taking place outside of the classroom. Additional activities can include:

- Submitting and publishing written, visual, audio or other work (classwork or independent work) on the SPACE website
- Participating in editorial meetings (SPACEcorp:Translating Science) to develop or solicit content to be published on the SPACE website
- Participating in workshops
- Attending SPACEcorp Project meetings
- Working on an episode of SPACEpod (the SPACE podcast)
- Participating in a SPACE or SPACE-affiliated competition
- Attending excursions
- Attending events
- Organizing social media for SPACE
- Organizing social events for SPACE
- Organizing and/or presenting at a talk, workshop, conference, showcase or other academic/creative SPACE or SPACE-affiliated event
- Doing research

* If you have other extra-curricular or volunteer activities you are involved in that do not appear on this list please use the form below to contact Joel Trudeau and explain what your activity entails to determine whether additional credits may be received.


 

To claim additional activity credits:

  1. Log onto the Omnivox portal
  2. Under Menu choose the "Certificate of Studies" tab
  3. Choose “Enroll in activities here” to see the activities listed for the current semester
  4. Click the magnifying icon in the “Check progress” column to view the activities and courses that you have participated in to date.

September 6, 2024: DiscoverSPACE Day volunteer (2 credits)
September 20, 2024: SPACE Orientation Meeting (2 credits)

Starting September 28, 2024: AI Accelerator Program with the AI Launch Lab (6 credits)
September 2024- February 2025: ASTRO PI Mission Space Lab (6 credits)
October 4, 2024: 
Celebrating Ada Lovelace Day (2 credits)
October 5-6, 2024: NASA Space Apps Global Challenge (6 credits)

October 9, 2024: Coded Dreams: a conversation about the future of artificial intelligence (2 credits)
October 25, 2024:
Coded Dreams Outing (2 credits)
November TBD, 2024: McGill Hackathon participation (4 credits)
November TBD, 2024:
Certificate Day Volunteer (2 credits)
December 22, 2024: Seventh Annual Writing contest: submission (3 credits)


AI Launch Lab: Must attend 6 out of 8 workshops (5 Credits)
Dawson HEP meetings (4 meetings 3 credits)—maximum 9 credits per semester
Dawson Robotics meetings (4 meetings 3 credits)—maximum 9 credits per semester
Dawson Robotics competition participation (4 or more credits) — allocated by team captains and mentors. Additional credits available in Winter 2024
Dawson Astronomical Society (4 meetings 3 credits)—maximum 9 credits per semester
SPACE Drop-in meetings (4 meetings 3 credits)—maximum 9 credits per semester
Publication of piece on SPACE website (2 credits)
Space workshops (2-3 credits each)
