Star Formation

Dawson students once again took part in the McGill Physics Hackathon which took place this year on November 6-7, 2021. The goal of the friendly computer programming competition was simple: to welcome everyone into the wonderful world of scientific computing!

Over a 24-hour period, participants had the opportunity to work on projects combining the physical sciences and computing, and to meet and learn from like-minded, curious, and passionate individuals as well as with experts from both academia and industry.

A team of mainly Dawson students—Shawn Maor, Syphax Ramdani, Joey Yu—won the Astrophysics prize for their project, Star Formation, and were awarded telescopes! The students also earned credits towards the SPACE: Arts and Sciences Certificate by competing and creating a project for the hackathon.

A writeup of the project experience will be published here soon.
