- Clear interest in interdisciplinary learning
- Demonstrated commitment to participation and follow-up
- Engagement with the planetary science component
- Prior knowledge of planetary science topics is an asset, but not required
Integrity of Applications
Note that to ensure a fair review process, applications will be screened for originality using AI-assisted tools. If inconsistencies are found, students may be asked to clarify or provide further context about their motivation and background. Our goal is to give every qualified applicant an equal chance while maintaining the integrity of the program.

- Motivation Statement: In no more than ~300 words, explain why you want to participate in the NASA/USRA–LPI Ices in the Solar System workshop. How does this connect to your studies, personal interests, and/or future goals? Before answering it is suggested that you look through the program of the previous Ices Workshop held at Dawson in January, 2023 (program) and previous student guide for more context.
- Prior Knowledge + Personal Interest in Planetary Science: What do you already know or want to know about planetary science?
- Demonstration of Independent Learning (~150–250 words):
Choose one of the following:
a) Describe a planetary body (Moon, Europa, Pluto, etc.) where ices play an important role. Why does it interest you?
b) Identify one open question about ices in the solar system you would like to learn more about and how you might start investigating it.
