MakerSPACE Internship

Return to description

In Winter 2025 we are inviting students to apply for an internship opportunity as part of an initiative to develop a makerspace resource for Arduino curriculum and to get involved with robotics education research. As an intern, you could play a pivotal role in integrating open-source microelectronics projects into the curriculum, and contribute to research that impacts the next generation of learners.

What Will You Do?

  • Participate in the creation of educational resources for Arduino-based projects.
  • Work on robotics and sensor applications while learning to use these tools effectively.
  • Integrate different discplines into prototypes for a new Integrative Project course.
  • Contribute to the MakerSPACE team's research activities.
  • Present outcomes at an end-of-year showcase and conference.

Who Can Apply?

  • Students with an interest in STEM fields, including those with no or minimal experience in Arduino.
  • Students who are enthusiastic about learning and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Students interested in gaining research experience and committed to contribute to the creation of educational resources.

What Do We Offer?

  • Research and CV-building experience.
  • An interactive and supportive research environment.
  • Opportunities to learn and experiment with emerging technologies.
  • A chance to work with a diverse group of students and educators.
  • Experience in developing comprehensive curricula and training resources.

Join us in this STEM education endeavor! Your participation will not only enhance your own skills but also contribute significantly to the learning experiences of others.

Please fill out the application form here at this link to express your interest and to provide us with some information about your background and aspirations.

Note: While open to all, the number of available internships is limited. Priority for participation will be given to students enrolled in the SPACE certificate in final decisions based on our analysis of the applications received. Students who complete the requirements of participation will receive 6-9 credits towards the certificate. They may also receive additional credit for a capstone project or in the acquisition of the foundational knowledge component of the certificate on a case-by-case basis.

A statement of interest of no more than 250 words explaining why you wish to participate in this internship will be required in the application form. Further inquiries may be included with the application or sent directly to Joel Trudeau via MIO on Omnivox.
