In this short interview, SPACE Fine Arts Fellow Amanda Beattie speaks with artist and former Dawson drawing teacher Joe Di Leo about his art practice. The interview takes place at Galerie Deux Poissons in the Belgo building, where Joe participated in a joint exhibition with Susan G. Scott from October 18 to November 24, 2018. Specific works are discussed, as well as Joe’s general approach to his practice. Students Roxanne Baloiu, Jérémie Creton, Miriam Feeley, Marie-Fleur Kim, and Olivia Spezia from Dawson’s Department of Cinema-Communications (CinCom) collaborated on this project by filming the interview and assembling the final product. Many thanks to the gallery for allowing us to film, Kim Simard from CinCom for her recommendations, the students who participated, and of course, to Joe for his generosity in sharing such insightful thoughts about his work.
