We students and faculty at Dawson are busy, busy, busy! It might be good to pause and consider life outside our walls. Life for many in our neighborhood poses enormous challenges. The men and women who are homeless confront daily that force of entropy that pulls toward disorder. There are, however, forces at work to help push back and maintain dignity and sustain life. The Open Door provides a safe haven for homeless and low-income people in Shaughnessy Village. It addresses the immediate needs of people while also working to build self-worth and assist in finding work and permanent shelter. In this session, two active S.P.A.C.E. students, Yanira Coulson and Alissa Luxenberg, will interview David Chapman, director for outreach, about his history of working for and with clients as well as his strategies to keep The Open Door in operation.
