SPACE Talk: The Senses and Culture
This SPACE talk series focuses on the annual theme of Exploring Knowledge through the Senses. The first was given by Juan Gomez-Perales, DRAWING IN 4 DIMENSIONS: Perceptions of the worldline with a general discussion on THE SENSES AND THE ARTS on February 11th, 2010.
The second talk, given by Chris Roderick and Francesca Theriault, Let’s Be Sensible, centered on THE SENSES AND THE SCIENCES. The third and final talk in this year’s series given by Concordia Anthrolpology Professor David Howes explores
”The Cultural Life of the Senses”
and will be held

About the speaker:
David Howes is Professor of Anthropology at Concordia University, Montreal, and the Director of the Concordia Sensoria Research Team. He has carried out feld research on the cultural life of the senses in Papua New Guinea, Northwestern Argentina, and among the Hopi of Arizona. He has published extensively in the areas of sensory anthropology, anthropology of consumption and the anthropology of law. His books include The Varieties of Sensory Experience (1991), Cross-Cultural Consumption (1996), Sensual Relations (2003) and The Sixth Sense Reader (2009).
